Homework
- There is one homework assignment every 1–2 weeks, posted and submitted on Gradescope.
- Solutions are graded mainly on method and presentation. Your solution should read as a clear story with no loose ends.
- Illegible work is returned ungraded and receives no credit.
- Any assignment may be graded for completion or on an all-or-nothing basis.
Quizzes
- Some lectures include a group or individual assessment.
- Your lowest quiz grade is dropped to cover necessary absences.
- There are no makeup quizzes.
Late work and extensions
Submit written work on or before the due date. If an emergency or other extenuating circumstance means you need more time, email the instructor before the deadline. Extensions and make-ups are granted at the instructor’s discretion.
Exams
- Midterm: Saturday, October 24, 8:00–10:00 AM, ELH.
- Final exam: during the final examination period, Wednesday Dec 9 – Friday Dec 18. Plan to be on campus and available for that whole period. The schedule is posted by the Registrar.
- Makeup exams are given only in extenuating circumstances. Email the instructor before the exam, as soon as you know you might miss it.
- Missing an exam without an acceptable excuse means failing the course.
Academic integrity
- Copying a solution from AI, an online resource or a solution manual, or cheating in any way, is a violation of the AUB Student Code of Conduct.
- Cheating, attempting to cheat, or not following the teaching team’s instructions during a quiz or exam earns a zero on that assessment.
- Cheating during an exam means failing the course and being reported to the MSFEA disciplinary committee. There are no exceptions.
- Course policy: credible evidence of cheating results in course failure. See section 1.1 of the AUB Student Code of Conduct.
Attendance
Students who miss more than one-fifth of the sessions before the withdrawal deadline can be withdrawn from the course by the instructor.
Withdrawal
You may withdraw from only one required course per semester without petitioning your faculty committee. Full-time undergraduates must keep at least 12 credits. A withdrawal gives a grade of W with no refund, and you cannot be reinstated or sit the final exam.
Software
You are expected to use software tools (MATLAB, Excel, SolidWorks, etc.) to analyze, synthesize and simulate designs. See the Ansys student license instructions on the home page.
Accessibility
If you anticipate or experience academic barriers due to a disability (including mental health, chronic or temporary medical conditions), please let me know as soon as possible so we can discuss options privately. You can also contact the Accessible Education Office: accessibility@aub.edu.lb, +961-1-350000 ext. 3246, West Hall 314.
Non-discrimination and Title IX
AUB policies protect you from discrimination, discriminatory harassment and sexual harassment. If you think you have experienced any of these, you can contact the Equity/Title IX Coordinator, Mitra Tauk (ext. 2514, titleix@aub.edu.lb), report to a Title IX deputy (aub.edu.lb/titleix), or report online, anonymously if you prefer, at aub.ethicspoint.com. Counselors at the Counseling Center and providers at University Health Services are confidential resources.
